TWAC | The Art of Storytelling ft Bonnie Greer
Posted: January 24th, 2012
The Wide Awake Club literally earned its name with ‘The Art of Storytelling’ workshop. No sleeping was permitted metaphorically or otherwise whilst special guest – playwright, novelist and cultural commentator Bonnie Greer was around.
The session began with an accappella version of I Saw Her by Kai Gama from The Insomniax. This was a perfect opening for Bonnie, as the song’s narrative is based upon Gustav Freytag‘s five-part pyramid theory of dramatic structure.
Bonnie Greer proceeded to give a synopsis of the roots of western literary theory, touching on Aristotle to contemporary issues of ‘broken narrative’ (think Tarantino – Pulp Fiction’).
After much synaptic grey matter action, we went on to give examples of how narrative can be developed in communications and how it can prove decisive when engaging audiences.
If you haven’t attended The Wide Awake Club before – sign up for the next show. It’s not every comms workshop you get both rock‘n‘roll and academia rolled into one and all before lunchtime.
